5 lb Rock Assortment for Tumbling: Premium Grade (H4SG Custom Assortment)
NOTE: The picture at left is representative of the the rocks you will receive in this purchase. Pictures of the exact rocks you will receive are available upon request. Please note that this might delay the transaction, however, we are more than happy to accommodate these requests. Please use the "Email Us!" feature above to do so.
Specifically, this diverse and beautiful 5 lb assortment contains precious stones that range the color spectrum as well as possess multiple dynamic blends and patterns. They are all approximately equal on the Mohs scale (7). In this assortment, you will receive varied portions of:
Petrified Wood
Lake Superior Agate
Brazilian Agate
Montana Moss Agate
Moss Agate, including some Maury Mt. (red, green, orange, yellow, brown and purple)
Green Tree Agate
Agate, variety (red, green, orange, yellow, brown, pink and purple)
Jasper, variety (red, yellow and orange)
Picture Jaspers (multiple varieties)
Mexican Crazy Lace
I also include other high grade material that is available at the time of purchase. This is somewhat analogous to a restaurant having a "catch of the day" that depends on what is available from the fishermen that day.
My ultimate goal is that you be pleased with every rock in the assortment, not just a few "flashy" ones! I have worked very hard to filter out what many would consider to be ugly "filler pieces." I accomplish this by carefully hand picking the rocks...I do this by being selective in the buying process and especially when I painstakingly examining each rock that goes into the final assortment for auction.
My motto is, “when in doubt, throw it out (in the yard)!”
Further, I have tumbled (polished) these types of rocks myself and know from personal experience that they take a high polish which enhances their natural beauty. Whether you polish them or leave them in their natural state, I know these rocks are sure to please.
Also, many of the stones in my assortments are larger than what you find in typical tumbling mixes. The average size of our rocks is 1” x 1” x 1”. This is not to say that all are this size, but it is the average I aim for when sorting. When estimating, I tend to choose larger stones and “throw the little ones back.” I have many reasons for doing this, but most importantly, I do it to give you the ability to choose what you want to do with these beautiful stones.
Therefore, more often than not, you will have more lapidary options with our rocks…whether you leave them in their naturally beautiful state, tumble them, make cabs or do a little of all...it is your choice!
Regarding barrel-size for tumbling:
If you have a 3 lb barrel, this is enough mix for at least 2.5 tumbling cycles! If you mix in smaller stones of your own to “balance out the load” (which I advise), then you can probably stretch this assortment out to 3-5 cycles!
